Dr. Muncy...
After
receiving his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Kentucky,
Dr. Mark Muncy entered the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. While
studying dentistry, he also participated in the American Student Dental
Association. During that time, he was vice-president of the local
chapter and was responsible for organizing a free children’s dental
clinic. Dr. Muncy also interned at Rileys Children’s Hospital in
Indianapolis, Indiana, where he confirmed his desire for further
training in the growth and development of children. Finally, Dr. Muncy
served as president of the Christian Medical and Dental Society for the
University of Kentucky in his last two years of dental school. Upon
graduating from Kentucky in 1996, Dr. Muncy obtained a commission as an
officer in the U.S. National Guard. That same year, he entered the
University of Iowa for postdoctoral training. At Iowa, he focused on the
growth and maturation of infants, children, and teens for twenty-four
months. His major areas of interest include sports dentistry and
preventative dentistry. In addition,
Dr. Muncy has extensively researched the latest dental materials.
Dr.
Muncy joined Pediatric Dentistry PA in July 1998. Since that time he has
been involved in local, state and national organizations. These include
the Piedmont District Dental Society, the South Carolina Dental
Association, the Southeast
Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, The American Dental Academy and the
American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
His
philosophy with dental care is simple: treat the child, not just the
teeth. His goal is to provide comprehensive care to all patients, while
building self-esteem and self-confidence in each child.
Dr. Muncy is married to Jannetta Muncy. They have three preschool children.
After
graduating with a degree in biology from Clemson University, Dr.
Kathleen Monn
entered the Medical University of South Carolina Dental School. While at
Clemson, she was a nationally ranked swimmer and was elected team
captain during both her junior and senior years. She was an Academic All
American during her four years of college.
She served as both a mentor and tutor to other student athletes and
continued this after she graduated. While in dental school, Dr. Monn was
a member of the American Student Dental Association and the American
Association for Women Dentists. She volunteered weekly at a free dental
clinic on John’s Island that provided dental care those in need. After
graduating from MUSC, Dr. Monn entered the pediatric residency program
at MUSC. While in the program, she volunteered at Smiles for a Lifetime.
This program provides dental care to underprivileged children. She also
volunteered at the Special Olympics. She conducted research on
pediatricians attitudes towards oral health. This project helps
pediatric dentist and pediatricians work together to provide correct
dental information to their patients at the appropriate time.
Dr. Monn’s areas of interest include: children with special
needs and prevention of dental disease.
Dr.
Monn resides in Simpsonville with her husband Greg, her son Adam and
pets, Calvin the cat and Murphy the dog.
